🕸️ Capacities
A visual dashboard for your life.
Hey friends!
Welcome to another edition of The Report. In this week’s newsletter, I’m excited to talk about Capacities! Capacities is a new productivity tool that helps users build a visual second brain — “a studio for your mind”. Capacities combines the visual aesthetic of Notion with the capabilities of tools like Roam and Obsidian, therefore combining the best of both worlds.
Capacities organizes your work in “Spaces” — similar to workspaces in Notion and lets you create pages within these spaces for notes, tasks and more. Much like many similar tools, Capacities also follows a block-format system and the all-too-familiar markdown format for ease of creating notes. Each document also comes with statistics related to the page, including a table of contents, word count, linked content and more. Capacities also automatically organizes your documents, web-links and images into multiple databases so you can get a highly visual overview of all your stored information.
The content types that get organized into these databases can also be configured to match custom objects like PDFs, book summaries, ideas, questions, meeting-related notes and even people. This feature makes Capacities much better than Notion in terms of how information is automatically organized for easy referencing and search. This tool is especially useful for researchers who tend to work with a lot of papers and need quick overviews of their research material. This is also true for students and other people that deal with a lot of information in their day-to-day lives.
Capacities also comes in-built with a daily-notes feature, much like Roam, Obsidian and Craft and offers customizability in terms of viewing these notes. You can view them monthly, weekly, on a three day period or on a daily period. Capacities is a beautifully designed tool that has a lot of potential for users who are looking to create their second brain but without the learning curve that comes with tools like Roam. It is simple, straightforward and the perfect tool to make that jump into the world of building your own second brain. With a desktop app on the way and a mobile app coming in 2023, Capacities is set to be one of the apps that will firmly be locked into my toolkit.
