Hey friends!

Welcome to another edition of The Report. In this week’s newsletter, I’m excited to be talking about Tana! Tana is a new tool-for-thought that is described as being the “EverythingOS” for teams, individuals and collaborators.

Screenshoot from Tana

Tana’s main unique feature comes from what they call Supertags. Supertags essentially act as queries that pull together information from different notes and areas into a format that many of us are familiar with — tables, cards or lists. You can configure your Supertags with specific database-like fields to help you bring up information much faster. This is where the app draws a lot of inspiration from tools like Notion. The Supertags can be customized in terms of Name, Description, Color, Property Types, etc. Another one of Tana’s unique features is the ability to open your notes in multiple panels and arrange your workspace however you like.

Tana also has traditional features that are popular in apps like Obsidian and Roam. These include the graph feature, outliner mode, and more. Tana’s basic functionality is very similar to Roam, where each node or bullet point can be turned into a page of its own. Tana also comes with a Daily Note feature which lets you capture everything you need for that day.

Tana also has a very modern UI/UX that’s inviting and easy to use. Tana uses a simple “@“ to reference another page or node, which is easier than memorizing different symbols for different objects. Tana also has a command prompt that lets you quickly add information on the go and sort and arrange your workspace’s information as you like it.

Overall, Tana seems like the perfect match for those that are stuck between using Roam/Obsidian/Logseq and Notion/Anytype. It’s highly intuitive and brings the best of both worlds together. Tana is currently free, but will be costing $10 per month or $100 per year, with free plans for students/educators.
